Loan Officer

About the role

Umoja Microfinance is hiring a Loans Officer for its Operations department, reporting to the Branch Manager. The officer evaluates and processes credit and loan applications, researching applicants' financial status, references and credit history and assessing their ability to repay. The duty station is assigned.

Key responsibilities

• Explain the types of loans and credit options available, their terms and conditions, and market Umoja's products
• Analyse and assess applicants' credibility to determine whether loans can be granted
• Verify the business premises and residence of applicants before recommending a loan
• Evaluate loan applications and documents to confirm their authenticity
• Approve loans and present them to the Branch Manager for final approval
• Keep clients informed of new company policies and ensure they are implemented
• Ensure disbursed loans are recovered within the agreed period
• Maintain accurate loan and client records and keep record books up to date
• Perform any other duties assigned

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in a relevant course
• Under 30 years old
• Familiarity with computers and software applications
• Solid understanding of direct and indirect lending products and practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, customer satisfaction orientation and sales competencies
• Ability to work in a goal-oriented environment
