Machinery Maintenance Mechanic (US Navy Program)

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The role ensures the inspection, diagnosis, repair and operational readiness of automobiles, trucks and heavy equipment in a demanding, safety‑critical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform technical, preventive and corrective maintenance on vehicles and heavy machinery.
• Diagnose mechanical problems using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Inspect equipment to identify safety concerns, deficiencies and maintenance needs.
• Order or recommend parts and materials required for repairs.
• Conduct quality checks to ensure repairs meet established standards.
• Interpret and apply manufacturer repair manuals, schematics, engineering drawings and diagnostic codes.
• Provide technical guidance and instruction to other mechanics.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used and maintenance activities.
• Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor to prioritize work and maintain equipment availability.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience maintaining automobiles, trucks or heavy equipment.
• Ability to read and apply technical manuals, schematics and engineering drawings.
• Strong focus on safety and quality standards.
