Postdoctoral Fellow – Land & Forest Tenure Reforms

About the role

World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to advance research on land and forest tenure reforms. The position is based in Kampala, Uganda and focuses on collaborative natural‑resource management, policy analysis and capacity building across multiple regions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators and leaders within CIFOR to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise and disseminate scientific publications and other communications.
• Lead and supervise project capacity‑building initiatives, including mentoring junior scientists and students.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders and donors.
• Identify and secure additional research funding, preparing proposals and managing budgets.
• Plan, monitor and report on research activities, including financial tracking and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., natural resources, social sciences, environmental studies).
• Experience in collaborative natural‑resource management or social‑science research, preferably across countries.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, develop budgets and meet financial objectives.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Demonstrated success in resource mobilization, fundraising and proposal development.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional language skills are an advantage.
• Experience working with multicultural, multidisciplinary teams and coordinating fieldwork in developing countries.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
