Professional Driver – International Organization

About the role

The Driver is responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of authorized personnel, cargo and documents for UNOPS in Kampala. The role also includes routine vehicle maintenance, administrative support for procurement and facility management, and immediate accident response in line with organisational policies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, safe transport for staff, visitors and, where required, hazardous goods.
• Collect and deliver mail, documents and other items as needed.
• Meet personnel at the airport and assist with immigration and customs formalities.
• Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs and support maintenance planning.
• Perform routine vehicle checks (oil, water, battery, brakes, tires) and carry out minor repairs.
• Coordinate major repairs and keep vehicles clean and road‑worthy.
• Ensure all required documents, insurance, registration, maps, first‑aid kit and spare parts are available and safely stored.
• Respond promptly to accidents according to organisational rules.
• Assist administrative teams with procurement quotations, inventory management and minor facility repairs.

Required profile

• Secondary school education (or equivalent) with at least 2 years of relevant driving experience, or a bachelor’s degree with no experience.
• Valid driver’s licence and completed driver’s training.
• Demonstrated professionalism, courtesy and discretion when interacting with diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently and follow safety regulations.
