Underwriter – Commercial & Personal Lines

About the role

The Underwriter will deliver high-quality underwriting and pension administration services for both commercial and personal lines. Working within Old Mutual’s underwriting function, you will ensure risks are assessed accurately, policies are issued promptly and client service standards are upheld.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate risks using proposal forms, medical reports, financial data and other documentation, adhering to underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
• Prepare quotations, deeds of adherence and underwriting terms, and issue policies in line with delegated authority.
• Maintain accurate policy and underwriting information in the system, allocate contributions correctly and reconcile employer/employee payments.
• Process benefit claims, ensure timely payments and uphold scheme rules and regulatory requirements.
• Respond to queries and complaints from customers, members, employers, trustees and other stakeholders professionally and promptly.
• Support audits, regulatory inspections and the preparation of required reports.

Required profile

• Senior-level experience (minimum 5 years) in underwriting, preferably within insurance or pension administration.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, underwriting policies and treaty conditions.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while delivering high-quality client service.
