Accountant – Kampala

About the role

A client in the security sector, operating across the East African region, is looking for an Accountant to join its team in Kampala, Uganda. The role maintains accurate financial records, supports financial reporting, ensures compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements, and contributes to the organisation's financial efficiency. It reports to the Finance Manager and is open to Ugandan nationals.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, management reports and other financial analyses.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial planning.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations, statutory reporting, accounting standards and internal financial controls.
• Coordinate external audits, keep audit-ready records and liaise with auditors, financial institutions and regulators.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field; CPA, ACCA or an equivalent qualification is an added advantage.
• 3-5 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, bookkeeping or a similar finance role.
• Proven experience preparing financial statements, managing accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations and general ledger accounts.
• Strong knowledge of tax compliance, statutory reporting, payroll processing, financial controls and accounting standards.
• Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, attention to detail, integrity and ability to work independently under tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with ERP systems, budgeting, cash flow management and financial analysis is an added advantage.
