Agronomy/Horticulture Graduate Intern – Kabale (Uganda)

About the role

The Agronomy/Horticulture Graduate Intern will support the GROWTH programme’s horticulture production activities in Kabale and surrounding districts, providing field‑level assistance to demonstration sites, farmer training, crop monitoring and nursery operations.

Key responsibilities

• Support establishment, monitoring and documentation of horticulture demonstration plots and farmer learning sites.
• Assist with nursery establishment and routine nursery management activities.
• Help deliver farmer trainings on GAP, CSA, safe agro‑chemical use, post‑harvest handling and produce quality.
• Conduct routine crop monitoring, pest and disease identification, and basic technical follow‑up under supervision.
• Collect field data, photographs and activity evidence using digital data collection tools.
• Support mobilisation of farmers for trainings, demonstrations, field days and other learning activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Agronomy or a related field, graduated within the last three years.
• Previous internship, field attachment or practical experience in horticulture or agronomy is an advantage.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of GAP, CSA, pest and disease management and farmer extension approaches.
• Ability to collect, manage and report real‑time field data using digital tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Valid motorcycle riding permit and willingness to travel frequently in the field.
