Chief Accountant

About the role

The Chief Accountant will lead the financial accounting function, ensuring accurate reporting, robust internal controls, and full regulatory compliance for the organization’s insurance operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accounts payable, disbursements, reinsurance accounting, tax filing, collections, medical accounting, intercompany, fixed assets, and bank & general ledger reconciliations.
• Collaborate with corporate segment leads to manage financial risks, plan and report on general insurance (GI) products.
• Develop and enforce strong financial controls across all business processes.
• Manage, direct, and develop the Financial Operations Team and Medical Accounting Associates.
• Review and approve payments, reinsurance reconciliations, tax returns, fund management, hospital reconciliations, and fixed‑asset movements.
• Ensure compliance with the Insurance Act, IRA regulations, and IFRS standards.
• Prepare annual accounts and financial statements, liaise with external auditors, and coordinate audit issue implementation.
• Maintain internal controls over financial reporting and resolve accounting issues.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in financial accounting, reporting, and internal control environments.
• Strong knowledge of insurance accounting, reinsurance, tax regulations, and IFRS compliance.
• Proven leadership ability to manage and develop finance teams.
• Experience coordinating with external auditors and implementing audit recommendations.
