Elevator Mechanic

About the role

The Elevator Mechanic will ensure the safe, reliable operation of embassy elevators by performing maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, the role supports continuous certification and licensing compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and adhere to all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
• Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters, and other diagnostic tools.
• Disassemble defective units, replace or repair locks, gears, cables, safety devices, and lubricate bearings to reduce friction.
• Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams to locate equipment issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance according to published schedules and provide input for task upgrades.
• Conduct equipment testing with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
• Execute additional duties and projects as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship with a Journeyman’s Certificate or equivalent field experience strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with engineering sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturers’ manuals, and applicable US (or European) electrical codes.
• Knowledge of annual maintenance requirements and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.

Required skills

• Blueprint and wiring diagram interpretation.
• Troubleshooting of brakes, motors, switches, and control systems.
• Use of test equipment: voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, continuity tester, feeler gauge, frequency counter.
• Installation and repair of transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
• Lubrication of bearings and mechanical components.
• Knowledge of US Electrical Codes and acceptable trade practices.
• Experience with Otis GEN2 MRL elevators (desired).
