Finance Assistant

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is looking for a Finance Assistant to support its finance operations in Arua, Uganda. The role involves accurate bookkeeping, payment processing, cash management and ensuring compliance with DRC policies, donor regulations and local legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Record financial transactions and maintain accurate bookkeeping in DRC Dynamics.
• Prepare payment, receipt and journal vouchers with complete supporting documentation.
• Maintain organized electronic and physical financial records.
• Manage petty cash, cash advances, bank transfers and cash reconciliations.
• Process supplier, staff, statutory and partner payments in line with DRC policies.
• Support month‑end and year‑end financial closing activities.
• Prepare cash count reports and assist in financial reporting and reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with DRC financial policies, donor requirements and local legislation.
• Maintain complete audit trails and safeguard organisational assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or a related field.
• Minimum two years’ experience in financial management within an international NGO or similar organisation.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial management systems.
• Excellent analytical, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of local languages spoken in West Nile is an advantage.
