Head of Risk

About the role

FINCA Uganda is looking for a Head of Risk in Kampala to build, implement and enforce an enterprise-wide risk management framework covering strategic, operational, market, liquidity, reputational, credit and compliance risk. The role leads the Risk Management and Internal Controls Department and advises the Board Risk Committee and Executive Committee.

Key responsibilities

• Develop risk management strategies and tools, and oversee enforcement of risk policies and limits
• Prepare and report KRI reports on financial and non-financial risks, and run the RCSA process
• Provide an independent view of proposed business plans to the Board Risk Committee and Executive Committee
• Drive upgrades to risk policies, analysis, systems and pricing/costing models, and build MIS systems to monitor credit, market and operational risks
• Organise, manage and develop the team, and monitor the performance of direct reports
• Ensure risk management is understood across the organisation, from senior management, and support management in achieving strategic goals
• Oversee compliance risk by tracking changes in laws, regulations and best practice and embedding them in policies
• Maintain the policy manual library, coordinate risk registers (Key Risk Profiles) and KRI reporting, and support business resumption and continuity plans
• Oversee incident management, investigation and remediation of events affecting the business

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Credit or Finance; post-graduate degree an added advantage
• Five years' experience in internal control, audit or risk management, preferably in financial services
• Three years' experience in a management or leadership role
• Fluency in English; availability to travel up to 25% of the time
