Human Resource Trainee

About the role

The Human Resource Trainee will join the Graduate Professionals Apprenticeship Program (GPAP) in Kampala, supporting the HR team with day‑to‑day operations. This full‑time, on‑site position offers hands‑on experience in HR management, recruitment and employee relations within an innovative startup environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update employee records and HR databases.
• Assist with the recruitment process, including posting vacancies, screening candidates and scheduling interviews.
• Conduct new‑employee orientations and support onboarding activities.
• Help implement and communicate HR policies and procedures.
• Administer employee benefits and assist with payroll related queries.
• Support employee relations initiatives and address routine HR inquiries.
• Contribute to HR projects and continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing or having completed a course in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.
• Strong interest in enterprise development, technology innovation and startup culture.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of HR management principles and policies.
• Understanding of recruitment processes and employee benefits administration.
