Lecturer – Department of Forestry, Biodiversity and Tourism

About the role

Makerere University is seeking a full‑time Lecturer for its Department of Forestry, Biodiversity and Tourism. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic community in Kampala, contributing to teaching, research and community outreach. The position involves both classroom instruction and active participation in research projects that support sustainable tourism development.

Key responsibilities

• Teach, examine and grade undergraduate and postgraduate students in tourism and hospitality subjects.
• Supervise student research projects and theses.
• Mentor junior academic staff and provide guidance on curriculum development.
• Conduct original research and engage in community outreach activities related to forestry, biodiversity and tourism.
• Write grant proposals to attract funding for departmental initiatives.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.

Required profile

• PhD in Tourism Management, Hospitality and Tourism, Hospitality Management or Hotel Management.
• Master’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management, or Business Administration.
• Honours Bachelor’s degree in Catering and Hotel Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Tourism, or Travel and Tourism.
