Mechanical Engineer – Feed Mill

About the role

Biyinzika Poultry Uganda Limited is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to ensure the reliability, availability and continuous improvement of its Katega Feed Mill. The position is site‑based and focuses on keeping all mechanical equipment – from raw material intake to bagging and bulk outloading – operating safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain mechanical integrity and performance of feed‑mill equipment including intake systems, silos, conveyors, bucket elevators, hammer mills, mixers, pellet mills, coolers, bagging and bulk‑outloading systems.
• Maintain supporting utilities such as boilers, steam systems, compressors, pneumatic systems, pumps, fans and water infrastructure.
• Lead mechanical breakdown response, fault diagnosis and safe restoration of production.
• Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programmes aligned to equipment criticality and OEM recommendations.
• Plan and manage scheduled shutdowns, major repairs, equipment overhauls and mechanical improvement projects.
• Establish equipment inspection and condition‑monitoring routines (vibration, temperature, lubrication, alignment, tension, bearing wear).
• Conduct root‑cause analysis of recurring failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Plan and control critical spares inventory to avoid production constraints.

Required profile

• Hands‑on Mechanical Engineer with proven experience in feed‑mill or similar production environments.
• Ability to work within a matrix structure, reporting to Operations and Maintenance managers.
• Strong focus on transitioning from reactive to preventive and condition‑based maintenance culture.
• Capable of responding quickly to breakdowns and planning effective shutdowns.

• Pellet mill maintenance (dies, rollers, bearings, shafts, drives)
• Conveyor and bucket‑elevator maintenance (belts, chains, buckets, sprockets, alignment)
• Hammer mill and grinding system maintenance (hammers, screens, rotor balance)
• Preventive and predictive maintenance planning
• CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) usage
• Root‑cause analysis and corrective action implementation
• Mechanical breakdown response and fault diagnosis
