Network Engineer – Fiber Optic Splicing

About the role

We are seeking a Network Engineer specialized in fiber optic splicing to join our team in Kampala. The role involves installing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic infrastructure for our clients.

Key responsibilities

• Install, terminate, splice, and test single‑mode and multi‑mode fiber optic cables.
• Perform fusion splicing on aerial, underground, and indoor fiber optic cables.
• Conduct OTDR, optical power meter, and visual fault locator testing.
• Troubleshoot fiber optic faults and restore services within agreed SLAs.
• Install and maintain fiber distribution panels, optical distribution frames, and joint closures.
• Install customer premises equipment, media converters, switches, routers, and wireless devices where applicable.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on network infrastructure.
• Conduct site surveys and prepare technical reports and as‑built documentation.
• Coordinate with the Network Operations Centre during planned maintenance and fault resolution.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards while working in the field.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance activities, and inventory usage.
• Support network expansion projects and customer installations.

Required profile

• No prior experience required; entry‑level candidates welcome.
• Willingness to work on‑site in field environments and adhere to HSE standards.

Required skills

• Fusion splicing of single‑mode and multi‑mode fiber.
• OTDR, optical power meter and visual fault locator testing.
• Installation and maintenance of fiber distribution panels, optical distribution frames and joint closures.
