Nutrition Officer – Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Project

About the role

The Nutrition Officer will provide technical leadership for nutrition interventions within the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project. This role integrates nutrition‑sensitive and nutrition‑specific approaches into climate‑smart agriculture, food security and livelihood activities to improve household nutrition outcomes in refugee and host communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation of nutrition activities in line with project objectives and national nutrition guidelines.
• Integrate nutrition‑sensitive approaches into agricultural production, food security and livelihood interventions.
• Promote diversified food production through kitchen gardens, climate‑smart agriculture and nutrition‑sensitive farming practices.
• Support communities to improve dietary diversity, food utilization and overall nutrition outcomes.
• Design and deliver community‑based nutrition education, behavior change communication and awareness campaigns.
• Train community nutrition volunteers, lead farmers, health workers and local leaders.
• Facilitate cooking demonstrations, nutrition fairs and practical learning sessions targeting vulnerable groups.

Required profile

• Relevant degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Agriculture or related field.
• Experience working on nutrition‑sensitive agriculture or food security programmes, preferably in humanitarian settings.
• Knowledge of national nutrition guidelines and climate‑smart agriculture concepts.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including refugees, host communities and government partners.

Required skills

• Technical expertise in nutrition assessment and monitoring.
• Experience in designing and implementing behavior change communication strategies.
• Understanding of gender‑responsive and disability‑inclusive approaches.
