About the role
The Livestock Policy and Advocacy Advisor will support SNV’s five‑year inclusive livestock development project in Uganda. Working closely with project teams, the advisor will shape policy and advocacy actions that strengthen livestock systems for smallholder farmers across Busoga, Rwenzori, Greater Ankole and Kigezi.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the formulation and revision of a national livestock policy aligned with project objectives.
- Design and implement advocacy strategies to promote the interests of smallholder livestock farmers.
- Engage with government agencies, farmer organisations, donors and other stakeholders to build consensus and influence policy decisions.
- Conduct policy analysis, research and evidence‑based briefing notes to inform advocacy efforts.
- Monitor and report on advocacy outcomes, ensuring alignment with the project’s Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP) approach.
Required profile
- Advanced degree in agriculture, livestock science, public policy, development studies or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in policy analysis, advocacy or programme implementation within the livestock sector.
- Demonstrated understanding of Uganda’s livestock value chains and smallholder farmer challenges.
- Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
