Postdoctoral Fellow – Financial Governance

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking postdoctoral fellows to lead financial governance research and support budgeting and fundraising across its projects in Uganda. The role combines scientific guidance with practical financial management in a multicultural research environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance to ensure research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators and leaders to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate scientific publications and communications.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists, students, and staff.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders.
• Identify and secure additional funding for relevant research areas.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including financial aspects and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., natural resource management, social sciences).
• Proven experience in collaborative natural‑resource management or social‑science research.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and develop budgets.
• Strong publication record, especially in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Experience in resource mobilisation, fundraising, and proposal development.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
• Track record of working with multiple partners and multidisciplinary teams in developing‑country contexts.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
