Project Officer – WASH (OCHA Project)

About the role

The Project Officer, WASH will support the day‑to‑day implementation of OCHA‑funded water, sanitation and hygiene activities in refugee settlements across Kiryandongo, Palorinya and Rhino Camp. Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the role ensures that all interventions meet donor requirements, ZOA standards and community needs.

Key responsibilities

• Implement WASH activities according to the approved workplan, budget and donor guidelines.
• Conduct field assessments of water sources, sanitation facilities and service gaps to inform technical planning.
• Monitor contractors, hand‑pump mechanics and community volunteers to ensure quality and timely completion of works.
• Support construction and rehabilitation of water points, boreholes, storage tanks and latrine blocks.
• Plan and supervise hygiene promotion, behaviour‑change campaigns and distribution of hygiene kits.
• Establish and mentor water user committees, hygiene promoters and sanitation committees.
• Collect, verify and report WASH monitoring data, progress against indicators and lessons learned.
• Ensure activities are inclusive and accessible for vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities.

Required profile

• Minimum of a Diploma or degree in a relevant field (e.g., Water Engineering, Public Health, Environmental Science).
• Experience in implementing WASH projects in humanitarian or development contexts.

Required skills

• Water source assessment and technical verification.
• Design, planning and supervision of WASH infrastructure construction.
• Monitoring, data collection and reporting on project indicators.
• Training and capacity‑building of community water and sanitation committees.
