About the role
The Regional Policy and Advocacy Advisor will lead creative efforts to highlight the developmental needs of children aged 3‑12 in PlayMatters operating areas, raise the profile of IRC and its partners, and influence how education that integrates play is prioritized and funded across the region.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement a regional policy and advocacy strategy for the PlayMatters initiative.
- Produce advocacy materials, policy briefs, and communication products that showcase the benefits of learning through play.
- Engage with government officials, NGOs, donors, and community leaders to promote policy change.
- Monitor and analyse the policy environment affecting education and child development in the target countries.
- Represent IRC at regional forums, meetings, and conferences.
- Coordinate closely with the Deputy Project Director and the regional project team to align advocacy activities with program implementation.
Required profile
- Passionate change‑maker with a solutions‑driven mindset.
- Experience in policy analysis, advocacy, or public affairs within humanitarian or education contexts.
- Knowledge of child development and learning‑through‑play concepts.
- Familiarity with the socio‑political landscape of Uganda and neighboring countries.
- Strong analytical, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural, multi‑stakeholder environments.
