Sector Manager – Ishasha, Queen Elizabeth Protected Area

About the role
The Ishasha Sector Manager will lead daily operations of the Ishasha sector within the Queen Elizabeth Protected Area under a collaborative partnership between WCS and UWA. Reporting to the Steering Committee, the role oversees resource allocation, strategic alignment, and team performance while coordinating with multiple partners and stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Direct the Sector Management Unit, supervising departmental heads, administrative, operational and technical teams.
- Develop and implement a Sector Management Plan aligned with the QEPA General Management Plan, including annual workplans and budgets.
- Conduct monthly SMU meetings to plan, prioritize, and share information across departments.
- Motivate staff, foster a performance‑driven culture, and ensure high job satisfaction.
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports, workplans, and budgets for the Steering Committee.
- Support proposal development, donor reporting, and compliance with funding regulations.
- Implement monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks and promote a human‑rights‑based approach to conservation.
- Assess and manage operational risks, including security, financial and logistical contingencies.
- Oversee consultants and contractors to ensure timely, high‑quality deliverables.
- Coordinate stakeholder collaborations and engagements for the sector.
Required profile
- Minimum 10 years of field experience in project management within complex, multicultural, remote environments, preferably in protected areas.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing large, diverse teams.
- Strong decision‑making, critical‑thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and cross‑cultural communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
