Senior Internal Auditor

About the role

The Senior Internal Auditor will lead internal audit engagements across the TVET Council, providing assurance on governance, risk management and internal controls in line with global standards and Ugandan regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed audit programs and conduct fieldwork covering financial, operational, compliance, procurement, payroll, revenue and IT processes.
• Document control weaknesses, gather audit evidence, and produce well‑referenced working papers.
• Draft audit findings, discuss them with process owners, and contribute to audit reports.
• Track implementation of management action plans and verify closure of recommendations.
• Flag risk observations for the Council’s risk register and stay updated on relevant laws and standards.

Required profile

• Honours Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics or related field.
• Full professional accountancy qualification (ICPAU member) and membership with the Institute of Internal Auditors of Uganda.
• At least six years of relevant experience, including three years at a middle level in a reputable organization.
• High integrity, objectivity and professional skepticism.

Required skills

• Good working knowledge of internal auditing standards and risk‑based audit methodology.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools and computer‑assisted audit techniques (CAATs).
• Strong analytical, report‑writing and communication abilities.
