Senior Scientist – Environmental History

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a Senior Scientist to lead research on environmental history. The role involves providing scientific guidance, shaping research agendas, and representing the institute in national and international forums.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate scientific publications and communications.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists and students.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders and pursue additional research funding.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including budgeting and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline with a strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Experience in collaborative natural‑resource management or social‑science research across multiple regions.
• Proven ability to develop and manage project budgets and secure donor funding.
• Fluent written and spoken English; additional languages are an advantage.
• Demonstrated experience working in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams.
