Senior Scientist – Nutrition

About the role

The Senior Scientist – Nutrition will provide scientific guidance for research programmes, ensure methodological rigour, and lead collaborative initiatives across CIFOR’s thematic areas. The role involves mentoring junior staff, representing the institute in global forums, and securing funding for nutrition‑related natural‑resource research.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest scientific standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators and leaders across CIFOR to define and implement research activities in emerging interest areas.
• Write and supervise publications and other scientific communications.
• Lead and supervise project capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists.
• Supervise students and staff, representing CIFOR in national, regional and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders.
• Lead the search for additional funding and manage research budgets.
• Plan, monitor and report on research activities, including donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline with experience in collaborative natural‑resource management or social‑science research.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects across regions and countries, including budget development and financial oversight.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Demonstrated experience in resource mobilisation, fundraising and proposal development/writing.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
