Senior Sustainability Officer

About the role

The Senior Sustainability Officer will serve as FINCA Uganda’s technical lead on sustainability and climate‑related risk. Reporting to the Head of Risk, the role embeds ESG considerations into strategy, risk management and daily operations across the credit portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation of ESG and climate‑risk frameworks, policies and due‑diligence tools.
• Review high‑risk credit transactions, manage corrective action plans and conduct climate stress testing.
• Integrate climate‑risk considerations into business strategy, procurement and product development, including green lending and climate finance.
• Oversee collection, validation and reporting of ESG data for audit‑ready disclosures and regulator submissions.
• Build and manage relationships with development finance institutions, funders, regulators and industry networks to support capacity building and product design.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Development Studies, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing sustainability programmes and communications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to produce high‑quality reports and presentations.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders, and to make decisive recommendations on high‑risk transactions.
