Accountant – Financial Reporting & Tax Compliance

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Accountant to manage our financial records, support month‑end close, and ensure compliance with Ugandan tax regulations. The role involves working closely with internal teams and external auditors to deliver accurate financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate ledgers, journals and financial records in line with IFRS/IAS.
• Process and reconcile accounts payable and receivable, resolving discrepancies promptly.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Conduct daily bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.
• Support month‑end and year‑end closing activities, including accruals, pre‑payments and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Assist in budget preparation, variance analysis and cost monitoring across product lines.
• Ensure compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority requirements (VAT, PAYE, withholding tax).
• Liaise with internal departments and external auditors during audit processes.
• Maintain fixed‑asset registers and coordinate inventory costing with the supply‑chain team.
• Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance financial controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related field.
• 2–3 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in FMCG.
• Professional certification (CPA, ACCA or equivalent) is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax laws and statutory obligations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, SAP or other ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modelling).
