Allied Health Sciences Technician

About the role

The Technician in Allied Health Sciences will support laboratory teaching and clinical skills sessions at Makerere University, ensuring safe and functional environments.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare instruments and work‑place for practical and clinical skills teaching.
• Participate in optical lab activities, demonstrations and assist students in developing competencies.
• Maintain equipment and facilities, report faults and schedule maintenance.
• Implement approved standard operating procedures.
• Maintain a safe and clean clinical, practical and optical laboratory environment.
• Keep equipment, consumable and practical‑session records and inventories.
• Assist in research, innovation, consultancy, fieldwork and community outreach activities.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff.

Required profile

• Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Optometry.
• Registration with the Uganda Allied Professionals Council.
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Age must not exceed 55 years at the time of application.
• Four‑year contract appointment.
