Apprentice - Infrastructure Support Specialist (6 Months Contract)

About the role

Absa is recruiting an apprentice Infrastructure Support Specialist for a 6-month contract in Kampala. The role covers the administration, support and maintenance of all country-hosted infrastructure, including virtual servers, physical servers, storage and backup servers, keeping systems secure, stable and performing at acceptable operational levels.

Key responsibilities

• Servers and platforms support: provision, install, upgrade, configure and troubleshoot servers; schedule and review daily backups; maintain backup systems; perform routine maintenance of servers, workstations and network devices
• Support IT audits, monitor resource utilization and performance, and implement security measures such as access control and server configuration management
• Ensure change management procedures are followed and support IT projects such as system migrations, upgrades and deployments
• Supervise maintenance of end-user hardware and support the conversion of business requirements into services
• Test management: coordinate release testing with Release Analysts, run functional, performance, integration and UAT tests, compile test results and coordinate post-release testing
• Risk management: support the country IT Risk and Governance team and help improve governance, risk, controls and compliance
• People management: drive own performance development, prepare for reviews, use a skills matrix to plan training and complete it within agreed timescales

Required profile

• Degree classification: First Class or Second-Class Upper
• O'Level results: Credit or higher in both Mathematics and English
• A'Level results: at least two principal passes
• Higher certificates and advanced national (vocational) certificates in Business, Commerce and Management Studies (required)
