About the role
The Business Development Manager – Cooperatives Central will lead the expansion of insurance products within cooperatives, SACCOs, and related member organisations in Uganda. Reporting to the Head of Cooperatives, the role focuses on identifying growth opportunities, building strategic partnerships, and driving sales to increase market penetration.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and execute business development strategies targeting cooperatives, SACCOs, farmers’ associations, trade unions and micro‑finance institutions.
- Prospect, pitch and onboard new cooperative societies for distribution of life, health, general and micro‑insurance products.
- Achieve sales targets, premium growth and market‑share objectives for the cooperative segment.
- Monitor sales pipelines, account performance and renewal rates, aiming for a 90% retention level.
- Train cooperative leaders, field officers and agents on product offerings and sales processes.
- Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial and product teams to design tailored insurance solutions for cooperative members.
- Build and maintain relationships with cooperative boards, marketing managers and key influencers.
- Develop agency, broker and micro‑agent networks and pursue partnerships with federations and apex bodies.
Required profile
- Proven experience in business development or sales within insurance, financial services or related sectors.
- Demonstrated success in selling to cooperatives, SACCOs or similar member‑based organisations.
- Strong relationship‑building and negotiation skills with senior cooperative leadership.
- Ability to meet or exceed sales targets and manage a robust sales pipeline.
- Experience in coordinating training programmes for partners and staff.
- Knowledge of insurance product development and customization for group customers.
