Chief Business Official – School District

About the role

The Knightsen Elementary School District is seeking an experienced school business professional to serve as its Chief Business Official. Reporting to the Superintendent, you will lead all business and fiscal operations for the district.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, monitor, and manage the district’s budget and financial reporting.
• Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, risk management, facilities planning, construction, transportation, and nutrition services.
• Collaborate closely with the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, administrators, staff, auditors, and external agencies.
• Supervise and develop business office staff, ensuring strong internal controls and compliance with California school finance laws.

Required profile

• Progressively responsible experience in school business, finance, accounting, or related administrative operations.
• Knowledge of California public school business practices, budgeting, financial reporting, and applicable regulations.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Experience with budget development and monitoring.
• Proficiency in accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing processes.
• Understanding of facilities planning, transportation, nutrition services, and risk management.
