Commissioning Telecoms Specialist – Pre‑Commissioning & Start‑up

About the role

The Commissioning Telecoms Specialist supports the safe and efficient pre‑commissioning, commissioning, start‑up and performance testing of telecom and security systems for plant facilities. Reporting to the Commissioning Telecoms Superintendent, the role oversees technicians and ensures all activities meet McDermott’s contractual and performance objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise pre‑commissioning and commissioning of telecom and security equipment, including pre‑energisation checks.
• Coordinate functional verification of systems such as PAGA, CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, telephone/VoIP and radio communications.
• Manage integration of telecom network infrastructure (switches, routers, industrial devices) with plant control networks.
• Work with system integrators, equipment manufacturers and vendors to support site acceptance tests and resolve equipment issues.
• Support integrated testing between telecom systems and DCS, ESD, and fire‑gas systems.
• Participate in walk‑down inspections, punch‑listing, and reinstatement activities.
• Ensure issuance of permits‑to‑work and job safety analyses for all commissioning tasks.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising telecom and security commissioning activities on industrial projects.
• Ability to collaborate with project teams, clients, vendors and system integrators.
• Strong focus on safety procedures and documentation.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills for equipment troubleshooting during start‑up.
