Telecommunications Engineer

About the role

The Telecommunications Engineer will work on‑site in Kampala, designing, implementing and maintaining telecommunications systems that support technology projects for under‑funded agencies. This full‑time role combines technical expertise with a community‑focused mission.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain telecommunications systems supporting technology projects for under‑funded agencies.
• Configure, optimise and troubleshoot network and VoIP infrastructure to ensure reliable communication services.
• Perform diagnostics, resolve technical issues and monitor system performance.
• Document system configurations and produce technical reports.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to align solutions with project requirements and community needs.
• Apply security best practices and recommend improvements to enhance service quality.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of telecommunications systems, VoIP and network design.
• Proven troubleshooting and technical support abilities.
• Experience with network protocols, routing, switching and basic cybersecurity practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Attention to detail and commitment to reliable, community‑focused service delivery.
• Experience in public‑sector or non‑profit environments is an advantage.
