Database Administrator

About the role

The Database Administrator will manage FINCA Uganda’s database infrastructure, ensuring reliability, security, and performance across Oracle, MS‑SQL, MySQL and other corporate databases. This role reports to the Applications and Support Manager at the head office in Kamwokya.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain and monitor corporate databases.
• Implement and enforce security safeguards and access controls.
• Monitor backups, logs, journals and transaction statistics to ensure data integrity.
• Manage data replication, disaster‑recovery databases and capacity planning.
• Allocate and monitor disk space, adjust table sizes for optimal performance.
• Develop and test backup and recovery plans in line with disaster recovery procedures.
• Prepare periodic performance, economics and usage reports.
• Deploy and maintain data reporting systems, ETL tools and support core banking solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, Information Systems or related field.
• 4‑5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator in a reputable organization.
• Oracle/MS‑SQL certification preferred.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Oracle, MS‑SQL and MySQL databases.
• Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL programming.
• Experience with Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems.
