Debt Collection Specialist

About the role

Majibu Africa is seeking a motivated Debt Collection Specialist to join its dynamic fintech team in Kampala. You will be responsible for managing overdue accounts, negotiating repayment solutions, and supporting the company’s credit management objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Contact clients via phone, SMS, and WhatsApp to remind them of due or overdue payments.
• Negotiate repayment arrangements and offer tailored solutions such as refinancing or date changes.
• Record all interactions and outcomes accurately in the system.
• Escalate unresolved cases to field or legal teams as needed.
• Meet individual monthly recovery targets and support team objectives.
• Monitor assigned portfolio, prioritize accounts based on delinquency stage, and work closely with field agents and collection teams.
• Identify high‑risk accounts for early intervention and maintain clear documentation for audit and compliance.

Required profile

• At least 2 years of experience in debt recovery, customer service, or telesales.
• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with a professional, respectful approach to clients.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of Luganda or other local languages is a plus.
• Tech‑savvy and familiar with CRM or collection software is advantageous.
• Highly organized, self‑motivated, and target‑oriented.
