Emergency Vehicle Technician

About the role

The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of fire trucks, ARFF apparatus, ambulances and a wide range of heavy equipment. This role ensures that all emergency vehicles are safe, reliable and ready for rapid deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on fire apparatus, ARFF trucks, ambulances and other heavy equipment.
• Remove, rebuild and replace engines, hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, seals, bearings and crane rigging.
• Calibrate load monitoring indicators, air‑conditioning systems and other safety‑critical components.
• Use computerized test equipment, calibration devices and gauges to diagnose mechanical, electrical and pneumatic faults.
• Document work orders, invoices and equipment repair records accurately.
• Follow all safety policies, including hazardous waste handling and OSHA standards.
• Act as the point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of a supervisor.
• Perform recovery operations and other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum two (2) years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience, preferably with emergency or military equipment.
• High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
• Experience repairing major mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
• Preferably EVT Level 1 certification in Fire Apparatus, Ambulance or ARFF.

Required skills

• Diesel engine repair and overhaul.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic system diagnosis and repair.
• Electrical diagnostics using computerized test equipment.
• Calibration of load monitoring and safety devices.
• Reading and interpreting schematics, blueprints and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, ASME, OEM standards and military vehicle regulations.
• Heavy‑equipment maintenance and repair techniques.
