Finance Officer

About the role

Educate!, a youth employment and skills provider in East Africa, is hiring a Finance Officer in Kampala, Uganda. The role keeps financial records accurate and transparent, ensuring transactions are recorded correctly, supporting documentation is complete and organized, and staff accountabilities are tracked and reconciled in a timely way. It strengthens financial records and internal controls so resources are managed responsibly and the organization stays accountable to partners, donors and the youth it serves.

Key responsibilities

• Process payments on time and accurately, in line with internal policies, audit requirements and regulatory standards; review vendor payment documents and coordinate with Admin on invoices.
• Prepare payment requests in ApprovalMax within two working days of receiving complete paperwork, follow up with approvers and vendors, and keep the payments tracker up to date.
• Maintain accurate financial records in the accounting system, review bank statements, post journal vouchers and reconcile ledger accounts regularly.
• Complete general ledger entries by the 3rd working day of the following month, keep weekly reconciliations and bank feeds trackers updated, and flag compliance issues to the Finance Manager.
• Track and reconcile staff advances and accountabilities in QuickBooks, follow up on outstanding amounts and ensure returned funds are properly banked and recorded.
• Train staff on finance procedures, forms and accountability processes, and support onboarding of new staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Commerce.
• Level 1 CPA or ACCA is an added advantage.
• 1-2 years of experience in accounting or finance.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills, high integrity and teamwork.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in Excel
• Accounting software such as QuickBooks
