Francophone Sustaining Defenders Programme Intern

About the role

The Sustaining Defenders Programme Intern will support Urgent Action Fund‑Africa in delivering rapid‑response grants to women’s rights organisations across Africa. Working remotely, the intern will assist with research, due‑diligence, translation and data management to ensure timely financial and technical assistance for grantees.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for grant applicants, acknowledging and routing applications to the review committee.
• Coordinate with advisors and endorsers to gather required information and endorsements for proposals.
• Conduct due‑diligence research on potential grantees and organise online due‑diligence meetings.
• Communicate grant decisions to partners and record outcomes in the grantmaking database.
• Enter and maintain all inquiries, requests and grant records in the database.
• Provide French‑English translation of grant applications and related communication material.

Required profile

• Degree in Social Sciences, Women’s Studies, Political Science, International Development, Law or a related field.
• Fluency in both French and English.
• 1–2 years of experience in grantmaking or related research.
• Strong understanding of gender equality and women’s rights issues in African contexts.
• Commitment to the mission of Urgent Action Fund‑Africa and ability to work effectively in a virtual team.
