Full-Time French Teacher (IGCSE/IBDP)

About the role

Aga Khan University in Kampala is looking for a full-time French teacher covering IGCSE and IBDP. The teacher's contribution to the school's mission rests on three areas: creating a positive classroom atmosphere, delivering effective instruction and assessment, and building strong links with parents.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean and orderly classroom, check attendance and appearance, and follow consistent guidance and behaviour policies
• Prepare daily lesson plans, teach and assess students, and foster critical thinking, ethics, creativity, responsibility and problem-solving
• Collaborate with colleagues and the regional PLC to improve teaching and learning, and achieve exam targets
• Set and mark homework, check notebooks, and set, mark and moderate examinations under the Head of Department's direction
• Prepare students for exams according to the syllabus, prepare end-of-term reports on time, and use exam results to improve learning
• Hold teacher-parent conferences, attend parent meetings, and promote the school's image
• Take part in club and house activities and support student leadership
• Join professional development programmes and state personal learning needs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Education or B.A. with PGDE
• At least 5 years of teaching experience on the relevant curriculum
• Registered as a graduate teacher with the Ministry of Education and Sports
• Proven consistency in class work performance

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of teaching methods and legal educational procedures
• Knowledge of contemporary teaching methodologies and the new curriculum
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in the use of technology
