General Manager – Logistics & Freight Forwarding

About the role

The General Manager will lead SMARTEC ELECTRONICS LTD's logistics and freight forwarding business in Uganda. Reporting to regional leadership, you will be responsible for driving growth, ensuring operational excellence, and maintaining profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a country‑specific business plan, identifying new opportunities in air, sea, and road freight, customs clearance, warehousing and distribution.
• Oversee daily logistics operations, including import/export, cargo consolidation, last‑mile delivery and fleet management, while monitoring KPIs for efficiency and cost reduction.
• Own the Uganda P&L, manage cash flow, credit control and negotiate rates with airlines, shipping lines and trucking partners.
• Recruit, mentor and lead a cross‑functional team, fostering a performance‑driven culture and succession planning.
• Ensure 100% compliance with Ugandan customs, tax and labour regulations and act as liaison with government authorities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, international agents and local partners, handling escalated issues and representing the company at industry events.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
• MBA or Master’s degree highly preferred.
• 10–15 years of senior‑level experience in logistics, freight forwarding or related sectors.
• Proven track record in business development, P&L management and team leadership.
