Laboratory Assistant (Post Mortem Attendant)

About the role

Makerere University in Kampala is recruiting a Laboratory Assistant (Post Mortem Attendant) to support the post-mortem laboratory. The post is reported to the Head of Department and involves cleaning, receiving and assisting with post-mortem work.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect the post-mortem tables and floors, and disinfect equipment after use
• Prepare and arrange the tools used in post-mortem examinations and maintain the equipment and instruments in the PM house
• Receive carcasses for post-mortem examination and maintain case logs
• Assist during the prosection (dissection) of carcasses
• Dispose of carcass remains by incineration and empty the incinerator
• Assist pathologists and technologists with curation and archiving of teaching specimens
• Help prepare practicals and practical examinations
• Work with the Sanitary Assistant (Cleaner) to keep the environment clean and free of vermin, cobwebs and waste
• Assist students with their assignments within the premises

Required profile

• Uganda Certificate of Education
• At least a credit in science subjects
• Age limit: applicants must not exceed 55 years at the time of application
• Tenure of appointment: 4-year contract
