Lecturer (Veterinary/Animal Science)

About the role

Uganda Christian University is recruiting a full-time Lecturer in Veterinary Medicine or Animal Science in Kampala. The post involves teaching at undergraduate and graduate level, carrying out research and supervising students.

Key responsibilities

• Teach at undergraduate and graduate level in areas allocated by the Head of Department
• Carry out research and produce publications or other research outputs
• Obtain research funding support from within and outside the University
• Engage with the broader scholarly and professional communities
• Supervise or assist in supervising undergraduate and graduate students
• Contribute to curriculum development, planning and implementation
• Help develop learning materials, prepare course syllabuses and keep records on student progress, achievement and attendance
• Take part in departmental and faculty seminars and in exam administration and marking
• Provide pastoral care to students in line with the university's code of conduct
• Participate in departmental, faculty and university-wide working groups and committees
• Maintain own continuing professional development and follow university policies, including integrating faith in teaching and learning

Required profile

• Master's degree in Veterinary Medicine or a closely related discipline, or a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine or Animal Science from a recognised institution
• University teaching experience as Assistant Lecturer for at least two years, or as Tutorial Assistant for at least three years
• At least one scholarly article or publication, or one research project or paper
• Proven record of managing time and meeting strict deadlines, and of teaching and supervising undergraduates and graduates
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Commitment to research, high-quality teaching and continuous professional development
• Must be a committed and practicing Christian
