Legal Officer

About the role

The Uganda Heart Institute is looking for a Legal Officer in Kampala to provide professional legal support, compliance reviews and advisory services so that the Institute operates within applicable legal frameworks and its liability is mitigated.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and advisory support on operational, corporate and administrative matters.
• Interpret and guide on statutory laws, judicial rulings and administrative regulations applicable to the Institute.
• Review, draft and vet contracts, Memoranda of Understanding, service level agreements and procurement tenders.
• Monitor compliance with statutory bodies such as URA, NSSF, PPDA, URSB and professional medical boards.
• Keep management informed of legislative changes, statutory amendments and legal precedents.
• Guide the review and formulation of internal policies, service charters and standard operating procedures.
• Conduct legal research and prepare briefs, opinions and defence reports.
• Assist in implementing corporate governance best practices and maintain legal registries and compliance documentation.
• Run training sessions for staff on workplace law, medical ethics, patient rights and employment law.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognised university.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip. LP) from the Law Development Centre, Uganda.
