Medical Records Technician

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Medical Records Technician for a clinic in Kampala, Uganda. The role manages patient medical records so that they are accurate, compliant with privacy laws and secure, supporting the clinical team in keeping records organized and accessible.

Key responsibilities

• Organize, maintain and update patient medical records in physical and electronic formats in line with clinic policy.
• Ensure records are accurately filed, securely stored and easy to access for patient care.
• Check that records contain complete information such as patient history, test results, diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Enter and update patient information in health record management systems.
• Review records for compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.
• Respond to requests for records from healthcare providers, patients and other authorized parties.
• Prepare reports and summaries of patient data for clinical or administrative use.
• Manage record release and keep logs of records requested, accessed or transferred.
• Train staff on documentation, organization and security practices.

Required profile

• Two years of experience in medical records management, healthcare administration or a related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, speak and understand English.
• Valid passport for at least one year and ability to obtain the required visa and facility credentials.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and stay compliant during deployment.
• PREFERRED: RHIT, CHDA or equivalent certification; associate's degree in health information technology or health administration; EHR familiarity; experience in military, government or austere healthcare settings.

Required skills

• Proficiency in medical recordkeeping and health information management systems and standard office software.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and related privacy laws.
• Strong organization, attention to detail and discretion with sensitive patient information.
