Ophthalmologist – Full‑time Clinical Role

About the role

International Medical Corps is seeking a qualified Ophthalmologist to join its medical team in Kamwokya, Uganda. The successful candidate will deliver comprehensive eye‑care services, ranging from outpatient consultations to surgical interventions, ensuring high‑quality patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct ophthalmology consultations for diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.
• Perform ophthalmic surgeries, including cataract extraction and other eye procedures.
• Screen, treat, and manage vision disorders and ocular infections.
• Provide inpatient eye‑care consultations as needed.
• Interpret diagnostic tests and imaging related to ophthalmology.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams for integrated patient care.
• Maintain compliance with patient safety, infection‑control, and clinical protocols.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with postgraduate training in Ophthalmology.
• Valid medical license and board certification or equivalent specialization in Ophthalmology.
• 3–5 years of clinical experience in ophthalmology, including surgical practice.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary clinical environments.
• Proficiency in English.

Required skills

• Ophthalmic surgical procedures (e.g., cataract surgery).
• Interpretation of ophthalmologic diagnostic imaging.
• Management of vision disorders and ocular infections.
