Primary Care Nurse

About the role

CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda, a private-not-for-profit Christian hospital specializing in pediatric neurosurgery and spiritual ministry, is hiring a full-time Primary Care Nurse for its Mbale facility. The nurse provides bedside care to patients admitted to the ward, ICU and operating theatre, reports to the Nurse Manager and works on a fixed-term basis.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor patients' conditions, vital signs and indwelling devices, interpret findings and update the multidisciplinary team and the patient chart
• Carry out nursing assessments, develop individualized care plans and evaluate their effectiveness
• Give health education to patients and caregivers, orient new admissions and respond to their questions
• Provide pre- and post-operative care, including preparing patients for theatre, checking NPO status, completing surgical checklists and signing PACU forms
• Process doctors' orders, follow up laboratory results and document everything accurately and timely in the EMR
• Care for wounds using sterile technique, maintain a clean and organized workstation and perform ward rounds
• Manage the resuscitation trolley, keep it stocked and functional, and report shortages to the shift supervisor
• Support the shift supervisor and act as a point of contact in the shift leader's absence
• Take part in spiritual ministry, professional development and occupational health and safety activities

Required profile

• Diploma in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid practicing license from the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
• At least one year of nursing experience or demonstrated willingness to learn; hospital experience preferred
• Experience with electronic medical record systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Good command of written and spoken English
