Project Director – AFGHS-FHI 360 Uganda

About the role

The AFGHS-FHI 360 Uganda Project Director provides overall leadership, management and strategic direction for the AFGHS-FHI 360 project in Uganda, overseeing the HIV and Global Health Security portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Direct overall project vision, design, planning and implementation to meet contractual milestones and budget.
• Develop and manage strategic relationships with government entities, implementing partners, and donors.
• Lead the country project team, ensuring clear priorities, performance management and professional development.
• Coordinate with FHI 360 headquarters on work plans, budgets and reporting to the US Department of State.
• Oversee monitoring, evaluation, risk mitigation and compliance with donor requirements.

Required profile

• Executive‑level experience (minimum 12 years) in large‑scale health or development projects.
• Proven ability to work with ministries, senior government officials, international partners and USG representatives.
• Strong consultative, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience managing budgets, contracts and multi‑disciplinary teams in a matrixed environment.

Required skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of project management methodologies and processes.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with local communities, government officials and donors.
