Project Director – AFGHS-FHI 360 Uganda

About the role

The AFGHS-FHI 360 Uganda Project Director provides overall leadership, management and strategic direction for the America First Global Health Strategy project in Uganda. Reporting to the FHI 360 Health Programs Director for Africa, the role oversees implementation of HIV and Global Health Security portfolios, ensuring milestones, budgets and donor requirements are met.

Key responsibilities

• Direct overall project vision, design, planning and implementation, ensuring goals are achieved within contractual parameters.
• Develop and manage strategic relationships with government entities, implementing partners, local organizations and donors.
• Lead the country project team, overseeing performance management, professional development and accountability.
• Coordinate with AFGHS-FHI 360 headquarters on annual work plans, budgets and milestone submissions.
• Serve as primary liaison with the U.S. Department of State staff in Uganda, maintaining strong donor relationships.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in project management within health or development sectors.
• Strong consultative, negotiation and communication skills, with ability to build positive relationships with government officials and donors.
• Proven ability to manage complex, multi‑stakeholder projects and mitigate risks.
• Experience leading teams in a matrixed environment and delivering results on schedule and within budget.
