Technical Officer - Laboratory

About the role

The Technical Officer will support laboratory sample management, testing, and biosafety measures, providing daily analysis of patient samples and ensuring quality documentation and performance reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise in sample collection, packaging, transportation and coordinate quality testing with reference laboratories.
• Perform routine patient care testing, maintain equipment, ensure quality assurance and staff competence.
• Request and monitor laboratory supplies/PPE to avoid stock‑outs and support interventions.
• Implement QMS, SOPs and job aids for testing and equipment maintenance.
• Conduct biosafety and waste‑management procedures in line with MoH guidelines.
• Retrieve laboratory results, monitor turn‑around time and compile national Ebola reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in laboratory technology, microbiology, biomedical sciences or related field from a chartered university.
• Registration with a professional regulatory body (e.g., Allied Health Professionals Council).
• Hands‑on experience in a clinical, research or public‑health laboratory setting.
• Interest in public health systems, health security and laboratory networks.
