Project Manager, Healthy School Food Environments

About the role
GAIN is hiring a Project Manager to lead its Healthy School Food Environments programme in Uganda. The position is an 18‑month fixed‑term role based in Kampala, coordinating school meal supply chains, food environments, adolescent behaviour change and policy engagement across government, private sector and civil‑society partners.
Key responsibilities
- Define project scope, activities and workplan aligned with the concept note and GAIN Uganda business plan.
- Support technical specialists in onboarding and coordinating evaluation partners, ensuring alignment of implementation and evaluation timelines.
- Lead recruitment and enrolment of pilot schools, develop selection criteria, liaise with school authorities and secure approvals.
- Maintain engagement with Ministry of Education technical working groups and support national policy development for school meals.
- Coordinate with municipal authorities to advance by‑laws on food sales and marketing near schools.
- Work with finance teams to prepare accurate budgets, forecasts and monitor costs.
- Oversee procurement, selecting and managing suppliers in line with ethical standards.
- Establish formal working relationships with partners, clarifying roles during the set‑up phase.
Required profile
- Proven expertise in school feeding systems, food value chains and local supplier networks.
- Deep understanding of Uganda’s school‑feeding policy, procurement mechanisms and institutional landscape.
- Experience collaborating with government agencies, development partners, private sector actors and schools.
- Track record of facilitating market linkages and embedding nutrition standards in supply‑chain processes.
