Registered Nurse – Operating Room (PRN)

About the role

The Operating Room (OR) PRN Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients throughout the pre‑operative, intra‑operative and post‑operative phases. This position works on an as‑needed basis to support the surgical team and ensure safe, high‑quality patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) in all surgical phases.
• Perform thorough patient assessments, document histories, pain levels, and psychosocial status.
• Develop and adjust individualized care plans, set patient‑family goals, and communicate updates to the care team.
• Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique, surgical count procedures, patient identification, and surgical site marking policies.
• Anticipate surgeon needs, assist with blood product handling, and respond promptly to emergencies.
• Ensure accurate and legible documentation in patient records.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a current Registered Nurse license.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
• Knowledge of JCAHO regulations, Patient Bill of Rights, and Nurse Practice Act.
• Ability to assess physiological and psychosocial health, manage pain, and perform patient education.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lb, and perform other demands of a surgical environment.
